Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids. This surgery can remove or reposition excess skin and fat to reduce puffiness, wrinkles, and under-eye bags, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed look.

It is easiest to think of the aging process as loss of fullness (deflation) and stretching of tissues (descent). As the lower eyelid tissue becomes more lax and starts to descend, orbital fat may prolapse forwards giving rise to lower lid ‘bags’.

Beneath eyelid bags, where there are stronger deep tissue attachments to the bone, the tear trough becomes more prominent. This gives rise to the concept of a hill and a valley in an area of the face that was previously smooth.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery aims to rejuvenate the under eye area by addressing lower eyelid bags and smoothing any hills and valleys.
